On the other hand, Canadians do have at least forty different ways of complaining (dare we say kvetching?) about snow. "Shmekldekers" has to be right up there with "papiervampyr" ("staple-puller" in Afrikaans) as one of my favourite foreign-language words. Yiddish is great, but I can hear my indignant Israeli friend yelling "Daber Ivrit!" now... The Inuit actually don’t have forty words for snow.
